Cheryl's Birthday

Yeah, today my lovely wife Cheryl is not 30 anymore. I always love to flood her email with birthday wishes, so please feel free to email cherking@brandeis.edu with a birthday wish. It doesn't matter if you know her or not; she is the love of my life and I would like all to celebrate.

Abby & Scott

Eli

It was long overdue, but we finally got the family in the studio for some portraits. Of course, EIi isn't too interested in sitting still right now, so it was a bit of a challenge for Neil. But, in the end, we all laughed a lot and we now have some precious images of our family in it's current configuration.

It's always a special treat when we are able to put our time and energy into pictures of our own families. I know the rest of my family will be grateful to see these. I hope you enjoy them, too.

Elsa & Tim

Elsa and Tim are just a great couple. They are lighthearted and relaxed. Both of them work well to make the other laugh and just enjoy life. I love that they can laugh one minute and next have a sweet kiss, all knowing that they love each other so much.

We took a walk through the UW Arboretum and found a couple of quiet areas, we thought. But between all the people trying to enjoy the great weather, we had a lot of onlookers. I think the onlookers we just jealous of Elsa & Tim.

Look for a fun wedding in September, I am sure they are going to have a wedding that you'll be sad to miss.

Zofia

We recently had the joy of our last portrait in our old studio. Melissa and Todd brought their new baby Zofia in for some photos. They own an amazing painting company called The Painting People in Whitefish Bay. They do great painting and beautiful murals.

Zofia came in a little sleepy and took a while to wake up. But she is just a joy to be around. I especially like seeing mom and dad interact with her. We were so excited to find out they were pregnant and seeing they joy in their eyes when the hold her, is truely priceless.

Nicholas

Years ago we photographed Judit and Steve's wedding. Now I am blessed enough, to have photographed their maternity, newborn and now Nicholas's 1 year portrait. Happy Birthday.

Have fun looking through these, he has some of the best expressions. He was a delight to photograph and I am looking forward to next year.

Andrea & Dan

I think "love is, what I got" (from a sublime song that was played by the band) sums up this wedding easily. The relationship of Andrea and Dan seems to be one of a couple in love; however if you see them together away from the world, you can tell how passionately they love each other. Likewise, thia love spreads amongst all of their friends and family.

I was honored to be invited to their wedding however everyone I met welcomed me into a close circle. So when I say "love is what I got", that explains that once you have met this family you have the greatest asset in life, love. . .

I wish them smiles and hugs as they head down to Mexico for their honeymoon. They deserve a rest and a lot of time together. I hope all that they meet in Mexico will be lucky enough to feel their love and spread it.

Happy Father's Day

I had a wonderful day with my family and parents today. Realized how amazing of a life I am living.

I must say "thank you" to my beautiful and talented wife that made me a father. I would be a husband with her, but because of all that she does, she gifted me with two amazing girls, that warm my heart always, I am also a father.

Also, a big "thank you" to my parents. Without their love and support, I would not know what being a parent is. They taught me to love, showed me tenderness, and brought laughter to my life.

So as much as we are grateful to our parents on these holidays, we are also to remember that our families, no matter who they are, are the reason we feel love, laughter, and joy of life.

Front Room is a small company and we love each and every client. I cannot thank them enough for their support and great occasions that we are invited to photograph.

We have been working hard at unveiling a new Front Room; new location, logo, and feeling. Check back in the next couple of weeks to see some of these great changes.

We recently hit over 4000 unique visitors to our website this month. Wow, thank you. Peace, blessings, smiles, and hugs to all of you that check in with us regularly. We would love to hear from you, please email us with your thoughts or what you would like to see more of.

Whitney & Josh

Well meeting Whitney and Josh was a treat... Whitney is a Food Scientist and Josh is going for his Masters at UW Madison...

We had a nice little stroll by the lake front, and man was it a busy place to be today... Boats, bikers, runners, little kids fishing, and even a cat on a leash...

Well I was happy to meet them, and to find out that these pictures are the first "real" photographs they have of them together... I look forward to photographing the wedding and reception at the Union... where I get to meet all the family that will have traveled here to Wisconsin... where people walk their cats on leashes...

Thanks
C

Lindy & John

Lindy and John

Mark and I had a blast as we stumbled on the most perfect sight... A busted down old red truck that was just fitting for what Lindy and John wanted for their engagement photos.

When we were done John and Lindy were planning on having dinner in Milwaukee so I recommended for them to try this new tapas restaurant on 1st and National called La Merenda, guess that was a hit on their list...

We had a nice time getting to know more about each other and I think we are going to have a great time photographing their wedding.
=-)
Calfa

I also wanted to add this email we received from our rockin' clients:

Calfa (& Mark, of course)...

Just had to say thank you for the wonderful time we had shooting our engagement photos. We had so much fun and are so thankful to Mark for finding that rusty old truck. We have been checking frphoto.com and our email incessantly this week, we can't wait for our own little album to appear!

I'm not sure what we enjoyed more, the photo session or the incredible tapas dinner that ended our night in Milwaukee... your recommendation, La Merenda (I think?), was incredible. One of the best dinners we've ever had... thank you thank you thank you for the whole experience.

XO.

Lindy & John

April & Dave

It was great hanging out with April and Dave for a bit on a beautiful night in Northern Illinois. On the way to the shoot, I was reflecting on the beauty of an engagement session and how it gives a couple a little time to themselves amidst the brewing storm leading up to the wedding. Chicago Botanical Gardens provided an idyllic setting for April and Dave to have a chance to breathe and just be together. Of course I was there to document it, but they barely noticed me once we got going.

I'm really excited about what we came up with.

Noah and Family

The owners of Sweet Sophie's in Madison came in for a portrait of the wonderful son Noag and their dogs Sophie and Edgar. We had a lot of fun shooting in the studio. I love the expressions that Noah gives. He has a great smile, but also can give these looks of old man with a lot of wisdom. I am excited to come visit them some time soon at their restaurant.

Jaclyn & Jason

These two are really fun together. They can make each other smile and have fun in any situation. We had been rained out before, but determined to shoot today. Luckily, we had great weather and the sun peeked out.

I am really excited an honored to shoot their wedding in October. They are a lot of fun and their smiles and laughter is so infectious, you cannot help having a great time with them.

You might remember their photos from the other day. . . Well we received a great email from Christine today and I wanted to share:

"Hi Calfa,

Pete and I had a chance to look through the pictures, and we LOVE them. I want to order a million of them, but I am going to try to just pick my favorites. :)

Thank you guys so much! You are both incredibly talented, and we cannot wait to have you guys shoot our wedding. Your style is exactly what we want for our wedding!

Thank you, and we'll see you in a couple of months!

Christine and Pete"

Look for some more great photos after their wedding on August 25, 2007

Julie & David

Julie and David

What an adorable pair. They were so nervous about getting their picture taken and yet they were fantastic. They are so obviously in love and it is so apparent these two are a perfect fit for each-other.

After the ever so sweet and sincere ceremony, Julie and David rode off in a limo to the Boerner Botanical Gardens for a beautiful and tasteful reception. Superb hors d'oeuvre and a amazing dinner by Bartolottas. Then all their friends showed their skills or humor on the dance floor. A few attempts at the worm were made, and David even requested out of wedding tradition, "the Chicken dance" to be played.

I hope these two are truly happy and I thank them so much for having me as a part of their very special day.

Take Care and happy honeymoon.

Steven

So Steven came in for a business portrait but he wanted something a little different. He runs a production company and needed something that shows his warmth but also he ability to get huge projects completed.

I really like how it turned out, kinda reminds me of a hip GAP ad.

Kayla & John

Kayla & John had a small ceremony last August with just Family. So, this spring they decided to get all of the photos of the wedding done, in what we call a day after session. What is so fun, is that we get to spend a couple of hours together shooting, but not have to worry at all about time. We have had the idea come up a lot with people that regretted not hiring us or destination weddings.

Kayla's gown you might recognize from Premeire Couture's line. I noticed how gorgeous it is and she responded with "Premiere Couture."

McNamee Family

I photographed the McNamee family at South Shore Park last week. We were going to go inside, but the weather was just too beautiful. Having some beautiful sunset light and the smile of a one year old is just priceless.

As with all of my clients, I learn something new. I usually don't do portraits of small children around dinnertime because they tend to get hungry and crabby. But seeing this family work, play together, and parents love their child so much, that any cry was quickly quelled with hugs (and snacks). So my 'lesson of the day' was appreciate and feel the love around.' Parents with their children are such an amazing blessing. Not only do they love their child, but also they fill the whole world with such warmth.

Chris Jordan

I received a forward, which I am always skeptical about, but I really got into this one. Chris Jordan is an artist out of Seattle that does some amazing work. Huge pieces of art that are made of smalled photos, that all have some sort of current social meeting.

Grandpa

I have had some crazy weeks lately. We are very busy at Front Room, trying to get everything ready to move the studio, play with kids, oh and sleep.

I went the park with Daisy and Izzy to play with Grandma and Grandpa. I was playing around with one of the photos in photoshop last night, and wanted to share.

So, the whole reason this photo got me, at 2am list night, was that Daisy has such a great smiles in the photo. Her laugh and smile brought a smile to my face. So even though I am working some crazy hours, I realize that those fleeting moments in life can bring happiness again and again.

Premiere Couture

So, as a parent, I know I am not supposed to have favorites, but. . . I just love Premiere Couture. Rosemary and Laura care so much about their clients and make sure that they get the best dress for each client.
We went to Madison to photograph some dresses for Premiere Couture. Here is a a small sampling of what we shot. Be sure to check out their website as they update it in the next couple of weeks with the new photos.

I must also thank our great models, which two of them are our brides. We photographed Erin Nycz last summer and we will be photographing Noelle Washburn this fall.

Alicia & Matt

Alicia and Matt

This wedding fit them to a T.

I meet Alicia at the Courtyard Marriott downtown late in the afternoon.... took photos of her as she calmly finished getting ready and as her Mother kept the Champagne flowing and the nerves down.

After a heavy rain earlier in the day the sky opened up and big pillow like clouds filled the sky. It made form some gorgeous pictures down by the lake.

A quick ceremony and even some tears that lead us into the reception. The evening was all at the William F. Eisner's Museum in the Third Ward. Matt catered to our listening needs by making a set of music for the entire evening. His father and generations of his family showed their ability to entertain on the dance floor.

A hug and kiss for Big Boy and some glowing Gem sign made for fun Alicia and Matt style photo. We even took a late stroll to the Milwaukee River walk area.

I had a wonderful time with the entire family.... definitely a fun loving; enjoy life, kind of group.

Have fun sorting through the music at Amebia records; make a day trip out of it. Happy San Fran honeymoon, and more importantly Happy Marriage...

Thank you very much for having me as a part of you unique and wonderful wedding day.

Ashley & Jason

Ashley and Jason

After a perfect walk in the park for their engagement session, the wedding was fit to follow. A lovely ceremony at their church and a fun filled reception in Lake Geneva, there was even pie at the reception~!!

These two are photographers at heart, so that made photographing them all day even more fun. Jason had some fun little ideas he would toss out at me and I would like to say we collaborated very well.

Take care you two and good luck on the big move to Cali.

Erin & Bjorn

Erin and Bjorn

Well I just had such a photographic fun day with these two. From the start of the day at a beautiful B&B, to the ceremony and reception at the Rivera in Lake Geneva, we had an amazing day. The weather gifted us a perfect day, thank you~!!

Erin was getting ready and the Golden Oaks B&B inn Lake Geneva, where Beauty from Milwaukee came to do stunning hair and makeup.

The ceremony went so smoothly. We then went to the reception in the Grand Rivera Ballroom. The Spinn Doctors D.J. fired up the evening and the dance floor was full...

Happy honeymoon, after law school I think you two deserve a little vacation.
(Congrats Bjorn on your graduation... and to you both on a wonderful wedding)

Thanks for having me as a part of your day
