Fish Fry

As some may know, my mother has Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.), but she is a great optimistic woman. We recently went out for a Friday night fish fry, and on the way out, Izzy took a seat. In my mother's usual positive attitude she told us that she gets to ride out and so does Izzy. (The photo was taken with my iPhone, so in case you cannot tell; my mother is in an electronic wheelchair, with Izzy sitting on her feet as she drives.)

Happy Easter and Spring

We are back from Vegas and working hard. We spent some time with our families this weekend.

We wanted to wish everyone a Happy Spring (and the warm weather is coming, I promise.)

Cheryl and I took Daisy and Izzy to see the Easter Bunny. Daisy immediately asked why "the Easter Bunny doesn't talk, Santa does?" I told her that he was tired from getting ready for Easter, she surprised me.

Twins

As a lot of you know, I have twin girls that are 3. So when I was asked to photograph twin girls that were six months old, I jumped at the chance.

Mom and Dad got married a couple of years ago and I had the joy of photographing them. Now a couple of years later, seeing their family come together was a lot of fun.

Tuesday Announcements

So, we are doing a lot around the studio lately. I just ordered 7 canvas prints to hang in the studio. Ranging from 16x20 to 40x60. We are hoping to have the new gallery up soon and get going on our opening party... I promise, as soon as we confirm a date, I will let you know.

I just realized that we have had our Blog up and running for one year. I also just looked at our stats and we had over 31,000 people view our Blog last year. Wow that is a lot of people, that is about 85 people a day.

So I am asking you what you would want to see? Do you want more news about us, photography tips, or photos?

We are leaving for Vegas in a week and a half. So the studio will be shut down from the 14th-19th. I will be checking email and trying to get back to you.

And for the announcements.
First, I photographed a beautiful child this morning that is undergoing chemotherapy. Her prognosis is not great, but she is an amazing person with great parents. Due to the beauty of their family, I am with holding photos from the Blog. But that does lead me to my next point. In honor of this great child, I am offering free portraits to any newborn. If you, a friend, or anyone that you know has a child less then 14days old at the time of the shoot, I will photograph them for free. (I will not stop you from making a donation to her Charity.)

And I wanted to ask you about offering a donated Wedding. I am willing to donate my services to a couple getting married, if they will, within their budget, make a donation to either this child's charity or the Wisconsin MS Society. I would choose a list of finalists and have you vote on them. I am only going to offer one wedding up, but first I want to get your feedback first.

Pam & Aaron

Eron and I photographed Pam & Aaron a couple of months ago. Yes I am a little behind on getting all of our Blogs online, but we have been busy with so many wonderful clients that I will be caught up soon.
We met them at Pam's parent's house and had a wonderful time on their property. We were also invited to share some extra cake, from an earlier tasting afterwards. I have a bad sugar-tooth, so it doesn't take a lot for me to sit down and talk over cake.
They are getting married in June and with the hospitality and love that was felt on a cold fall day, we will be in for a treat. This wedding will be a true expression of family and love.

Auto Show

I had the joy of going to the Auto Show with my family and parents yesterday. I always have fun seeing a 3 year old drive a car.

I had a couple of interesting experiences there... I had the Mercedes Dealer come up to me and talk to me intently. I have been going to the auto show for years and never really gotten the time of day from the luxury dealers. I found it interesting that maybe I have gotten older and more in the target market for these cars. I find it interesting to see who the dealers talk to, in that they are there to sell cars and they know that most people are window shopping. How they select who is a worth while prospect is interesting. Do they judge the clothes and see if they are?
Well I am not buying a Mercedes. I am happy with my Honda.

Have a great weekend and I hope to see you on Sunday.

Cheryl (my lovely wife) has found her dream car/truck.
And of course, I have taught Daisy to look when changing lanes.
Dad found out the price and told her that we cannot get one for her...

Sunday thoughts

Today maybe Thursday, but I am feeling mellow and wanted to just talk today...

I had a great commercial shoot on Monday for Hotel Metro. This is a great spot for a smaller reception, but more so a beautiful place to spend the night. If you are looking for a fun place for guests to stay or even yourself, I highly recommend them. The hotel is small with really cute rooms.

We have had some great bookings lately. Our schedule is filling up fast. Please talk to us about 2008 soon.

I recently just met and booked a wedding with Angela from Top Shelf Weddings in Madison. I look forward to posting some photos from working with her.

Not to bring you down this morning, but I wanted to talk about NILMDTS
There was an article in the paper on Sunday talking about this. In case you might have missed the article or are unsure of what this is: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is an organization based on helping parents find a photographer to capture those special moments for a terminally ill child.

After being a part of this and offering this to people, these photos help to grieve and understand the beauty of their child that was taken away from them before his or her time.

I can only emotionally handle a couple of them a year, but I want to offer to all of those that might need my help. This is not just for newborns. I received a call for a one year old that has cancer. (My lept out to them and I am honored to be involved at any time.)

I offer, completely free of any charges, portrait on location, hi-res files, prints, and hi-res of the retouched files.

I love what I do. I am so lucky to make a living doing this, so if I can give back to you or anyone you know, please contact me. I am the proud parent of twin girls that spent some time in the NICU when they were born. I was given a gift of their lives and I want to keep returning the favor.

I am not an overly religious person, but have a faith in people, life, and our world. After being invited to photograph so many weddings, I have heard: 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:8. (Love is patient...)
I like the last part the most:
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.

I think that is why I feel so strongly about photography and capturing moments. The love that I witness is so special, that when I can compliment the love with an amazing image; I feel that I have been able to outwardly show the love that was felt.

This shoot was also a lot of fun because I know mom from Groom. You might recognize Crystal from the photos.

Kate, Jerzy & Family

I am getting caught up on posting, but we have been shooting so much that I have had a hard time dedicating one day to each shoot.

Well, I had the please of seeing Rebecca and Kate again. Last time I saw them, Kate was just a little puddin'.

Fast forward a couple of years and now she is the big sister to Jerzy. He has some of the most intense eyes. I cannot wait to photograph this little guy again.

I wish you all a lot of love and peace in this cold winter of ours.

Groom

Ironically, I go to Groom to get my hair cut. (No, it is not for weddings, but they do offer a package for the groom and groomsmen to go and get shaves and a trim before the wedding.) Erica there rocks. She is absolutely amazing and a sweetheart. Cheryl and I went today to get the girls hair done also.

You can see the mascot of Groom, 'putter. And my lovely ladies get a lollipop afterwards for being so good.

I had the pleasure of photographing Sharla when she was pregnant and now I got to photograph the whole family. Piper is 14 months old and a joy to be around. I was lucky enough to have both Mom and Dad come with; which allowed me to capture a couple of the two of them together.

Kunz Family

So you might not recognize the people, but this is Vicki from La Tulipe. Her flower work is amazing and often seen in our studio.

So this is a rare time when I can photograph someone that is usually on the other side, making brides and events look amazing.

I am catching up on my blogging, but I love to see the portraits this time of year. I enjoy seeing the expressions of children change. Warms my heart when it is so cold out.

Cristin & Jordan

24 hours and counting. . .

We had a great dinner last night with Cristin, Jordan and their amazing families. I love being a part of this wedding, for the are so relaxed and sweet. I took a picture of Cristin and she told me that I just had to Blog it, so I decided to put a couple of extra up. (I was going to go swimming in the ocean this morning, but the rain changed my mind. Silly I know, since I would get wet anyway.) I do know that the rain will pass and we will have a great wedding on the beach today.

We had photographed Nikki & Ryan's wedding almost two years ago, so this is like a family reunion for me. These families are kind and have so much love in their hearts. (They almost make my job too easy.)

After a quick and warm run-through of the ceremony; we headed over to the pool for a cocktails and a great BBQ. Everyone was entertained with their caricatures being drawn, in which Cristin made a silly face and told me to Blog it.

Smiles and hugs,

Neil

Hello all, we are traveling to Vermont this weekend for a wedding. So we will be out of the office and trying to check email. Calfa, Kate, and Kevin will be in the office to help you out as much as possible.

If you happen to be in the Burlington area, send us an email. Maybe we can get together.

(Also, we will be in Naples, Florida next weekend.)

Jaclyn & Jason

The second wedding for me this weekend. But by no means an addition.

I met up with Jaclyn at Blush Beauty in the third ward. There an already beauty bride got her make-up done to perfection. Sarah and crew at Blush do such an amazing job at making the bride look like them, but enhance the their look.

We then went to Grace Lutheran in downtown Milwaukee. I love the Pastor here for his warm and insightful ceremonies. He mentioned that a marriage is not a 50/50 compromise. It is a 100/100 compromise. Marriage is so much of giving of yourself completely and not expecting a return.

I love seeing Jaclyn and Jason together, becuase they embody this ideal. They work so hard to make sure that the other is always happy. From making sure one has the wedding of their dreams to maybe even kissing in public. (I won't mention who does what)

We all then headed over to Lake Park for some photos and downtime for Jaclyn and Jason.

We then quickly headed over to The Pfister for a great reception.

I was entertained again from the music of Sound by Design. (Can you tell that I like to refer my favorite vendors out?) Paul and his crew put on a nice tear jerker video, followed by some great music.

I witnessed, what can only be a family tradition of a Meatloaf song. I think everyone there new the words and danced together.

Jaclyn was the stunning bride and Jason the ever loving husband. There are a fun couple with their friends, but so passionate alone. I feel honored to be a witness to their love. They a couple, have their own friends, but always come back together. They are strong alone, but unbreakable together.

I have so much love and respect for my Long Island friends. Long Island may be a cool place to live, but my new friends from there rock.

Smiles and hugs to all,

Neil

Kristi & Dan

This was an amazing weekend. I photographed two weddings with amazing couples both times.

Saturday I met Kristi and Dan at the Schlitz Audubon Center in Bayside. Such a beautiful place, made even better by such a rockin' couple. (Please take a day trip there for a great walk in woods, without traveling far.)

These families are soo special that I don't know exactly where to begin. Surrounded by trees and beautiful falling leaves, the family gathered to greet Dan and then Kristi. Dan lets some tears go and showed his passionate love for Kristi and she was escorted down the aisle.

We had just enough light after the ceremony to do a couple of photos outside and then went inside to be welcome to a beautiful cake made by Elizabeth's Cakes.

After a couple of heart-felt speeches from the family and bridal party, Paul for Sound by Design got the party going.

I have not seen a group of people dance this hard in a while. I left about 10:30 and the party was still going strong. I am guessing that the party only slowed when the music was turned off at the end of the night. (If you are looking for a DJ, do not hesitate to call Sound by Design. Paul is the Bomb when it comes to keeping the music and fun going throughout the night.)

Tiffany and Joe, close friends of the family were there. You might remember them from last year. Their one year anniversary in this next weekend. Happy Anniversary.

Coming into this wedding, I felt like a friend. Leaving, I got hugs and kisses and felt like part of the family. Thank you so much for the honor of being a part of the wedding.

I hope that Kristi and Dan can always feel the passion that showed us today. Their love inspires my heart and my work. Much love, hugs, and of course Smiles,

Neil

Liz & Chris

There are not many people that I would go for this crazy of a weekend, but Liz and Chris are totally worth it. Chelsea and I got onto a plane and flew to New York on Saturday. (I was in Madison till 12:30am, got a little sleep and then went the airport.)

To understand Liz and Chris is hard. They give all of themselves to the rest of the world. Their work and life is about helping and empowering the poor. So even a day focused around them, was more about their family and friends coming together.

The ceremony and reception were held at the Union Theological Seminary.

They had a custom made ceremony that was involving their family and friends. With great moving readings and songs filling the air by the whole crowd, many people were in tears.

We had a great cocktail hour filled with hugs and a general relaxed nature. With the wind blowing we all moved inside to hear some close friends and family give speeches. Each and every person told of the beauty inside of these two. I think given the chance everyone wanted to go up and share their pride in being their friend or family.

We were treated to their favorite food from Tanoreen. Then cannolis brought in from Philadelphia, cupcakes from an amazing baker, and chocolates from JohnandKiras. I know that everyone was stuffed and so happy by the end of the night.

In keeping with their spirit, they requested no gifts and to make donations to: Poverty Initiative. Please feel free to check them out and give them some support.

Sara & Paul

We had a great theme this weekend with couples. Sara and Paul had dated for a little while (no need to give them a hard time.) But the day had finally come. . .

I am glad that they waited as long as they did, because when I witnessed their vows, I heard a couple with soo much love and support for the other. They had already gone through the growing pains of life and marriage and come together. I have no question in my mind that they one of the few couples that found a perfect compliment to the other.

We started the day off with a “reveal” at the Mansion Hill Inn in Madison. We then ventured over to Olbrecht Gardens for some family and couple photos.

We had hoped to have a great outdoor ceremony but the weather and wind was too cold, so we all moved in to the Monnona Terrace.

Eron and I were blessed with a great crowd that danced and had a lot fun. We got to see Sara’s students dance and Paul tear up the floor with his moves.

We got to end the night photographing them as they left under a warm blanket in a carriage, soon to be under the ware sun of Hawaii. Have a great honeymoon and we will see you two soon.

Elsa & Tim

What a cool weekend. After fighting through traffic for Wisconsin's first home football game, I met up with Elsa and Tim at the Overture Center. They had a beautiful summer wedding on the Rooftop Garden.

I was overjoyed to meet Sunny from Sunny Day Soirees. She is a bride that took her knowledge of weddings at started a planning service from the brides perspective. She and her husband were just fantastic to work with.

Elsa's passion for my work brought me in. I am so honored to have been invited to photograph their wedding. I love that my clients feel so passionately about photography that they give me free will to do whatever I want. They can trust that I can create with them some beautiful images. I can only hope that she will see these images and her dreams come true.

Even though we were under a tight schedule, we always had a lot of fun due to Tim's jokes. He is a great guy that can relax and put a smile on every ones face. I see why Elsa loves him so. Together they find a smile in all that they do.

I hope that they can find some time to relax in Hawaii on their honeymoon.

Smiles and hugs,

Kimberly & Christian

What a stunning day. A total sleeper couple that delighted us with hugs and laughs. I began they day at Neroli where another bride took Kimberly's veil by accident. It was quickly returned, but that proves that Kimberly just has great taste.

While the women got their hair done, the men went to Groom to get cleaned up for the day. With a great staff and straight razor shaves, the men looked sharp.

Kim had some killer Christian Louboutin shoes and a amazing dress from Premiere Couture. This dress has sophistication in style with a sexy back. She and all of her maids just looked stunning.

In their stretch hummer we took a ride to their house to see their puppy and then off the the liquor store for a quick stop for more beer.

I love that the couple came to us saying that they were shy for photos, yet through out the whole experience they relaxed and turned into total Front Room rockstars. They danced, sang , and drank to celebrate the beauty of life.

Christian and Kimberly are surrounded with a great loving family and friends. Eron and I were honored to be brought in to this inner circle . Kimberly and Christian are really sweet people that would do anything they could to help you out. Seeing their dedication to each other and all around them reminds me how sweet and wonderful life can be. The more time that we spent with them, the more I see why people flock to them. They are special souls and we cherish our friendship with them.

Marissa & Brant

We had so much fun on our marathon engagement session with Marissa and Brant. We started out in the third ward, went to the beach and then to his family summer home for a portrait.

Sometimes we might need to encourage couples to kiss; however we had to make sure that they were not kissing in every photo. They were just so happy to be together, that we could not tear them apart. Gotta love when a couple makes my job easy.

Look out for this couples wedding next year, as with their style and tastes, this is going to be just a stunning event. They have the love and energy that we all dream about.

I had the pleasure of photographing my cousin's wedding. I love going to weddings, but when I can see all of my family around, I am amazed how beautiful life can be. Janine is a fun soul that makes me laugh. Even when she is all dressed in her beautiful gown, she can crack a smile and get the whole room laughing.

Janine and Jon are a really fun couple. They laugh a lot and therefor are filled with happiness and love. I know that they can get through anything with their unbreakable bond.

Laura & Ty

Wow. Just an amazing wedding. Laura & Ty are just a really cool couple. They are relaxed and sweet, but tender and beautiful together.

We began the day at the Pfister with Blush doing perfect makeup. We then went over to St. John's Cathedral where Laura put on her stunning Monique Lhuillier dress from Gigi's of Mequon. Laura had a stunning two piece dress that just rocked. It had a stunning bottom that flowed down the aisle while the top has just enough sass to show how much fun she is to be around.

Everyone headed down to the Milwaukee Art Museum to see the stunning work of Dynamic Events. They created a colorful and fun event with a hologram dance floor and event that everyone danced till the band cut us off.

As Eron and I get close to all of our clients. I got to see how 300 guests can love two people so much; and when they could catch a moment alone, how the two of them love each other so intently. The two sides of their lives meld perfectly together. They can be in a crowd of family hugging while still having the other near and being happy. The strength of their love is an inspiration for all couples. They can smile or cry, but knowing that the other is always near, be perfectly happy.

Eron and I were honored to give Laura and Ty a ride in our car around town at the end of the night. Even though it was almost 1am, they vowed to continue their celebration out with friends. I hope that they had as much fun as we did and they can get some sleep.

Sunday Thoughts

So much is happening at Front Room lately, I am not sure where to start. . .

First, we had another amazing weekend, with Eron and I shooting at St. John's Cathedral / Art Museum and Calfa and Mark shooting at Pier Wisconsin (Pilot House). The venues were stunning and perfect. But the clients out shown everything. (Photos coming soon)
Everything we do is mutli-layered. We are not only documenting the wedding but get the inner working of the relationships. We are so blessed to have clients that allow us to see their inner workings. To see the why exactly they fall in love. We get to know you all so well and we are so grateful. The hugs that we receive, the "thanks" and the joy from being there is immeasurable. I cannot thank our clients enough. You really do become part of the Front Room Family.

Our new studio is coming together. We hope to have it completed soon, and then the big opening party; that everyone is invited to attend.

Overall we are very happy and honored. We love our job and cannot thank you enough for your support.

(On a side not, I saw the Bourne Ultimatum. Good movie. I reccomend that on the big screen for a nice night of popcorn and eye candy.)

Kimberly & Christian

With the hot weather that we are having and uncertain times of rain, we rescheduled this engagement session a couple of times.

Luckily we found a time that wasn't raining and only bearably hot. We took a stroll down a street, stopping for a couple of beautiful areas. We had a lot of fun with Kimberly and Christian; in that they were initially a little shy for the camera, but eventually really opened up to us.

There is a lot of love and tenderness in their eyes. Some people might show their affection immediately; where as they are about the subtly. You can see them shine through a smile or a glance to the other. Great loves need not be about the grand kiss, but all of the wonderful details that you find warming your heart.

Sunday thoughts

So, I have been very lucky. In that, I am blessed with a great family and a job I am passionate about. Lately, I have noticed what amazing people my clients are to each other. Watching all of the families interact. In that the way in which they express their love for one another in front of my eyes is amazing.

I saw a couple of completely different examples of this last week with my clients. It started with a portrait of a rescue dog and witnessing the owner’s tenderness with her.
I then photographed a family (which we are photographing a wedding for this weekend, stay tuned, it is going to be killer…) Seeing the parents interact with their daughters was breath taking. In that they were not just parents, but great friends.
Then, I photographed a high school senior and her mom. Seeing the tenderness in her mom's eyes as she watched her daughter being photographed. Then to see the two interact as they laugh together.

All of these people took time to appreciate the love around them. To stop their day and realize the beauty in front of them.

Well, hopefully this isn't turning a little to cheesy. (If so, I will stop) But through these ever so brief descriptions, I have realized that beautiful people surround me. Each and every one of you has an impact on my life. You remind me to love my family just a little more and appreciate the world.

Thank you and Smiles

Kleinhans Family

So, I love photographing a legacy client. In that when I photograph someone and their family comes in, I love seeing the growth in the families.

I was lucky enough to have the Kleinhans come in for a family portrait recently. (With my current list of out of town clients, this family is actually on their way out of town, moving west.)

I really enjoyed the dynamic of this family. Seeing the kids play and be a family, not just siblings. They all truly love each other. I can only sum that up to parents that have shown their kids love.

I am truly blessed to have such special people surround me with love and invite me to capture their families.

Smiles,

Janine & Jon

Ciralsky

This portrait was pretty special, in that I had photographed their sister's wedding a couple of years back, and now that came to visit us from Mexico.

I am so overjoyed to have such great families come to visit. See the pride in a parents eye or the hug that brings them all a little closer.

Mietra & David

Yes, every has asked us, and yes the wedding was on a Thursday. Even though we had an outdoor ceremony, in the rain, this was just a beautiful wedding.

Everything that was a part of this wedding; ceremony at Villa Terrace, reception at the Pfister, and have Joel from Wedding Films come, made this into an exquisite event.

I love that Mietra would not compromise being outside, even though it was raining. And luckily it was a amazing ceremony. The rain made this just one of kind ceremony that I will never forget.

Seeing these two together is amazing. People always talk about finding someone that completes them. And that may be cheesey, but it is actually true. These two are so perfect together, that they are stronger, happier, and better when they are near.

And in the last ten years, I have heard a lot of speeches, but hearing Mietra's Father tell everyone that if David did not marry her, (pause), he would want to adopt him.

Smiles and hugs to all

Ian

I have had the pleasure of photographing a lot of families that are from out of town lately. Some have come from Mexico to around the us for a portrait.

Recently Ian came to visit and we photographed him, where his mom and dad got married, a couple of years ago.

Ian was great to see, as he was a little worried about being in the grass, but he got comfortable and even tried to snack on some flowers.

As they move to the west coast, I wish them the best and hope to see Ian soon.

Cooper and Leo

As some of you might know, I am the proud papa of twins, so when I was invited to photograph twins, I jumped at the chance.

Cooper and Leo came to visit at our new space and got to play in our gallery. They are great identical twins. Seeing mom and dad interact with them, warmed my heart. They have all the love and patience of twin parents.

Angela & Nicholas

Eron and I went to Madison to visit a really cool couple. We met them originally at the Capitol, where we found out that is where that got engaged. So when we photographed their Engagement Session, we had to do some photos by the Capitol.

Angela & Nicholas are super sweet couple. They were a lot of fun they kept all of us laughing the whole time.

Look for their wedding photos in September. They are getting married in a n Opera hall, which is going to be stunning.

Abby & Scott

We had a wonderful time on Friday photographing a beautiful family coming together. All of Abby & Scott's family were so excited to be there; not only to celebrate the marriage, but to celebrate the family coming together.

We had a great time at Sunny's home under a tent. The kids got to draw with chalk on the driveway, blow bubbles and play with the dogs.

The night continued with some karaoke and as always a lot of hugs and laughs.

Birthday

So today is my birthday today. I am going to take off and have breakfast at the Original Pancake House with my kids and parents. I am addicted to their Dutch Boy pancake, mmmm.

I also received a kickin new gas grill. It only took my dad and I an hour to set-up. Just give me call to come on over for a BBQ.

Police Concert

So Cheryl and I went to see the Police in concert at Wrigley on Friday. The concert was great. They were so on that night. The whole band played perfectly and Sting's voice was great.

I saw the concert for Live Earth the next night and Sting's voice was off. I feel very lucky to have heard them at their current peak.

My wife wanted to bring a camera, but I wussed out, because I didn't want to want to get caught and have the camera confiscated. Surprising that a photographer would be so cautious on bring a camera somewhere.

So I am sorry to report with out any photos, but if you have a chance to see them, the concert is soo worth while.

Kay & Christopher

I am always looking for unique couples. People that offer something a little special to photograph. Kay and Chris provided an amazing event filled with fun and great family and friends. I was so impressed that they pulled off a wedding that as elegant yet so relaxing. They didn't have formal dancing but had great music, they had an afternoon wedding, that felt complete and not hurried at all.

They had an amazing meal, I really shouldn't be surprised, at Lake Park Bistro. Kelly provided great service and made sure that every element of the dinner and great desert be perfect.

Then, everyone was invited to retire outside, listen to music, golf or play lawn games.

Also, as a special surprise, Risha our Studio Manager came along to assist me and do some shooting. She provided a lot of great images and was nice enough to add her sowing expertise to do a quick mend on the gown.

If you ever happen to meet Kay or Chris, take a moment to say "hi". They are a couple filled with laughter and the beauty of life. They embody the warmth of family and joy of just being alive.
